Insurance and your health decisions

Insurance companies are not in charge of our health decisions, but sometimes we feel like they are. The insurance-limited medical care mindset makes the sacred, doctor-patient relationship feel like a transactional office visit, with insurance codes and medication only treatment that is either suppressing symptoms or causing more harm.

You deserve better than that.

MaxWell Clinic has a unique way of caring for our patients. And to radically improve your health, we believe you need more than what’s offered at an ordinary doctor’s office. Rather than simply treating your symptoms, we seek to understand why those symptoms are there…and to be honest, to do that effectively takes time and a team. We designed our practice in a way that enables us to build deeper relationships with our patients. More time and more care to maximize your opportunity for better health.

15-minute doctor appointments once a year aren’t enough

We know from research that the average visit to an ordinary doctor’s office lasts about 15 minutes. There’s a reason why that’s the average time for a doctor’s appointment in the US – it’s because that’s what insurance will cover. Insurance companies shouldn’t dictate how much time you get to spend with your clinician. You deserve understanding of why those symptoms are there in the first place so we’re not simply treating what “looks good” on paper but getting at root causes behind them.

This is where our unique model comes into play: by designing our practice with time for deeper relationships, MaxWell Clinic takes steps necessary to help optimize your opportunity for better health! More time together allows us to know your whole story. That’s critically important to us–not only because we want to get to know you personally, but because it may hold clues to your dysfunction or health risks.

You no longer have to worry about copays or deductibles

At MaxWell Clinic, our direct pricing system is straightforward and transparent. Our clinic isn’t part of the insurance model – so there are no hidden costs, EOBs (Estimation of Benefits), notices of non-coverage or impossibly complicated invoices to deal with!

You can still save money

While we’re not in-network with insurance, many of our patients use their out-of-network benefits to get partially reimbursed for care received at our clinic.

Many of our patients use Health Savings Accounts (HSA) or Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) to help pay for care at MaxWell Clinic. This allows you to use pre-tax dollars, which saves you money. You may also be able to use your out-of-network benefits, too.

Please understand, insurance will not simply reimburse you for your MaxWell Care program fees, but rather, after each office visit, you can ask your Health Advocate for the paperwork you can submit to your insurance company. Typical out-of-network reimbursement may refund you anywhere from 30-60% of your MaxWell Care program fees. Remember, every insurance program is different, so it is best to connect with your insurance provider to clarify your benefits and take advantage of FSA, HSA, and out-of-network coverage.

Insurance companies shouldn’t be in charge of your health decisions

Out-of-network care opens the door for out-of-the-box treatments. Without the restrictions of an insurance-based model of health care, we can offer our patients more time, more appointments, and more innovative therapies. The ability to explore out-of-the-box solutions means a better chance of improving your health.

But, what good is my health insurance if I can’t use it at MaxWell Clinic?

MaxWell Clinic simply chooses not to get reimbursed by insurance companies so we can focus on working directly with and for you, our patients. You’ll still want to keep your insurance for everything else, such as labs, testing, or medications.

When it comes to choosing a healthcare professional, we encourage you to make your health the deciding factor. MaxWell Clinic puts you on a path towards wellness by addressing the root cause of their symptoms.

Choosing an in-network clinician who simply offers band-aid solutions might save you money in copays, but will it really address your underlying health issues? Don’t let the fact that we’re out of network stop you from becoming a patient at MaxWell Clinic. Allow us to partner with you on your health journey, so that we can help get the care and treatment you need and deserve.
